Where were the regulators? As usual they were underfunded and understaffed. Regulators, all too often, tend to side with the businesses they are regulating and care very little about the public. When a business does something really bad, it may get its hands slapped. So what happened to the former chairman of Ameriquest? He became US Ambassador to the Netherlands in 2006. No prison time for this staunch Bush supporter.

"Personally, I think and have long felt the Fed should have done more early on," he says. "But I don't think anybody realized the level of problems that were going to come out in the last year or two. If you had said to me the industry was going to melt down, I would have said you were absolutely insane." - Wright Andrews

Hey, I gotta throw the BS flag on that one! Does this sophisticated businessman expect me (and others) to believe he doesn't understand what was going on in the industry? Or that the FED could seriously influence (much less have actual responsibility for) the outcome? C'mon fella...don't piss down my leg and tell me it's raining.

The SOB was handing out money hand-over-fist at every level and he should be one of the first ones enjoying a perp-walk (along with some pols) and keel-hauled for good measure over this entire sorry episode. This crap could wind up being that grain of sand that causes the avalanche that everyone has to endure for many years to come.

Surprised my as@....

Where were the regulators? Quaking in their poltically correct boots. This whole mess was predicated on lending to people who had no business owning a home in the vague pursuit of "expanding the American Dream of home ownership."

When the Massachusetts Attorey General started raising an eyebrow ... who was there to stop her but one of Ameriquests lawyers, now Governor Devolve Patrick. Isn't that special? http://squaringtheglobe.blogspot.com/2007/10/new-unmentionable.html
