How about this one for another act of desperation? According to one blog I read the other day, "...during the 1930s deer and squirrels were hunted almost to extinction" as the result of hardships brought on by the Great Depression.

Michael, my family has cut back dramatically. We have cut our grocery bill in 1/2 by buying generic and in bulk. The kid’s lunches have changed from expensive portion control items to items purchased in bulk and placed in Tupperware. Example, applesauce. I picked up 2 crowns of broccoli the other day and put it back when it rang up as $5.00.

We leave the minivan in the driveway, run our washing machine with cold water to save oil, and stopped buying paper towels and use lots of dish cloths. I deployed electric oil filled rads throughout the house for heat this winter. It’s cheaper right now to use electric heat as oppose dot $4.00 heating oil. Its amazing the changes you can make when forced too.

Quite frankly I’m very scared and freaking out inside because when next winter comes I know heating oil will be $5+ and electric thru the roof. I still have not paid the last oil delivery, I can’t as I dong have $650 for the 167 gallons they delivered.

It’s amazing how quickly things are going terribly wrong in such a short time. It is truly a nightmare come true. All I can think about is next winter and being able to afford food. God this is horrible, and its only just getting started.

At least we haven't resorted in mixing pet food to human food. Well, it doesn't hurt to be thrifty and wise. It just so happened that there is crisis that people just learned how to practice discipline.
