This country is going to tear itself apart limb from limb long before we get to that level of privation.

Micheal I have to disagree with you that you've not argued for a depression type scenario, if anything my take from your books and blogs are far worse. That unfortunately is the Micheal I agree with. Change of heart?

Actually, what I've often said is that I don't expect Great Depression 2.0. In Financial Armageddon, I predicted depression first, then hyperinflation. That is still my view.

The crisis of 29 was the father of a new world,
world war 2 delivered this new infant and gave
US custody of this new born.New social & international
relations where created, new modes of production came
into being, a brand new currency proudly serve the whole
glob and a different culture spread like wild fire in
pine forest. PARADISE... for a time.Until all things
grew old & created horrible contradictions.
This process of birth, aging & death is now in the process
of being repeated. But the new born will be anything but
like the old baby

In my view, the difference in then and now was the abilities and skills of middle aged people.
Go into the office buildings in any large city, and ask how many could frame a building, put on a roof, or change the starter on a vehicle. You could find everyone who can send a text message or tear up the screen on a game of "Halo" on Xbox, but those skills won't help you create a shelter, or put food on a table, etc. Not only that, the physical ability of most people could not stand up to sweating on a roof in the sun, or swinging a 24 oz hammer all day long. In short, we have lost the ability to work hard physically, and that is what it takes to survive when you must do everything yourself. Also, the country's moral standards have slipped to the point that the "me first or me only" thought process is prevalent. Who cares whether their neighbor eats or not? People once looked after each other. We have lost the game on that. No more close-knitness, no communities comming together to help a stranger who is hungry. We want the government to take care of it--dont' bother us with it. This is the chief difference in the times we live in. Call me old fashioned or a puritan, but that is how it is.
