Comments

"If policymakers were thinking ethically, rationally, and clearly ..." They ARE thinking rationally and clearly (if not ethically) - they are serving the businesses and class of people who own them. Or, since a large number of our CONgressmen and Senators are members of the Patrician class, they're just helping their friends first. Not really much different than government at any level here in the good 'ol US of A. - just a whole lot more money involved!

Local retailers (small businesses) are being hurt by the fact that they are required to collect sales tax from local customers while large retailers selling online or by mail order, such as Amazon, are still not required to collect sales tax from customers in states where they do not have a physical presence. Who knows how many thousands of businesses have closed their doors in recent years because of this unequal tax treatment.

Culture arises from the way we make a living,
and in a class society it will inevitably posses
a class character.when it comes to big money, versus
little money, only fools and naive people can believe
in equality.

Our economy was being proped up by artificial means. We were living on debt. At the consumer level, at the local government level, companies, and the federal government. When this debt binge popped, we realized we are not as wealthy as we thought. Unless we have a technology breakthru or reinflate the debt bubble(not likley), we will undergo an adjustment to our quality of living. Our standard of living is still adjusting downward. I hope you can handle it.
