As with Friday's unemployment report, Gallup's most recent Daily Tracking Poll finds that nearly one-fifth of the population is (still) "underemployed":
One thing the Labor Department data does not reveal, however, is the mood of those who are out of work or are employed part-time but want to work full-time. According to Gallup, sentiment remains bleak:

You can get a semblance of where the job market is by just following the diminishing jobs on Craigslist. If you find a job among the scams, you at least don't have to go thru corporate bullshit routines like credit reports, decision committees or whatever HR screening bullshit is in place.(HR is totally useless). I submit apps just for the rejection fun. I peruse indeed.com and that also has cratered with the number of jobs. the only entity that is hiring is the federal government and they get about 300 plus applicants for almost every job. Part time jobs seem to be available but aren't plentiful. God help you if you're over 50 and a non-minority.

So many scams now, even the jobs on indeed are scams, they are using real company names to gather your information. Not sure what for because we don't have much money to steal. At least Google does a good job with the spam mail.
The only way to get a Fed job is to live in a crappy area otherwise they will least likely to select you. Even after being selected its not a sure thing. My nice Hispanic friend, who lives in a crappy area got a interview finally but never heard back. I have begged recruiters for my selection and they can't do anything.
I too am waiting on a committee and probably will be rejected again. The American Dream is dying and the president or congress doesn't seem to care.

I think the President bet on the wrong horse--healthcare. Everyone needs a job and a home and the emphasis on healthcare was misplaced as the economy cratered. I will argue it's really not his fault--he was handed a total disaster and tried to use outmoded ideas and the WRONG people and institutions to make decisions (Paulson, Geithner, etc and the TBTF Banks). I would give him a B for effort and a D on results. He really needed to shake things up, didn't, and I'm afraid he's looking at a one term presidency. However, the Republicans are just the flip side and shouldn't be elected as they offer no alternatives. It calls for total replacement of the parties and that's not going to happen. So we will probably continue the stalemate politically as the economy gets even worse. I would start a business but my credit has been trashed by my TARP recipient bankster mortgage company and cannot get a loan. Again further illustrating that all of the TARP money should have gone to the entreprenuerial class to create jobs. All the politicians have been bought and paid for. I can't think of one who is as broke as me.

Its not entirely his fault but he is not helping. It's business as usual. When the economy is in such dire need for support, you need to pull out all the stops. Drop tax rates to 25% see if that works. Got to try everything at this point.
I am thinking of starting a business with a family member too...but what is the point if I can't generate any business in this mess. If I don't get a relevant job in the next 5 years, I so scared I may be on welfare and food stamps working in a supermarket.
