Mike,

Ahaaa, I knew it !! Damn those onerous and draconian accounting rules for causing this crisis. Mr. Forbes and the other boot licking apologist had it correct all along.

We need to pay close attention the next time a member of the PhD crowd, (re: papa has dough, papa has dealership) pipes up telling us what to do. Comical if it were not so tragic.

"That's the thing about a house of cards. Only one of the supporting elements has to wobble or break loose before the rest follow suit."

Haha -- a house of cards folllowing suit! Good one :)

Seriously -- we go about our daily lives as if it's all under control but the things that are happening aren't supposed to be happening and cards are fluttering to earth all around us but we don't worry because it's one or two at a time, and they're 'over there' in complicated finance-land, not here in the real world. All we can do is trust the 'house' to not cheat us too badly.

I think the powers that be are cutting and shuffling and dealing and pulling cards from the bottom of the deck, middle of the deck, sleeve, vest pocket -- marked cards, Tarot cards, they don't care -- just anything to avoid 52 card pick-up. Or worse, a game of smoke smoke fire.
